THE FISHING RULES FOR KORKEAKOSKI
- Fishing is allowed in the area only from the fishing pier built for the purpose. A single fisherman cannot hold the same place for longer than 20 minutes if others are waiting to use it. Reserving places from the pier and fishing from boats is forbidden.
- Using hooks deliberately intended to trap the fish from the outside is forbidden. Fish ensnared elsewhere than the mouth have to be released back in the river after resuscitation. This concerns all species of fish.
- Killing of any salmon and of trout in spawning dress is forbidden between 1 October and 31 May.
- Killing of fish overwintering in the waters after spawning is forbidden throughout the fishing season.
- Catch ensnared from the outside and other catch protected by the fishing rules have to be resuscitated properly before being released back in the waters. Keep the fish carefully in swimming position, entirely underwater and head upstream, until the fish shows signs of reviving and starts swimming by itself. Care must also be observed in other respects when handling live fish or fish to be released.
- One 12-hour licence entitles the holder to take a maximum of three (3) salmon, trout or rainbow trout, and in addition a maximum of five (5) whitefish. The licence expires when the holder has taken the maximum number of fish allowed. For a 6-hour licence, the quota is 1 salmon or trout and 1 rainbow trout, or 2 rainbow trout.
- The minimum sizes are: salmon and trout 50 cm, grayling 40 cm, pike-perch 40 cm. Fish that are undersized or otherwise protected by fishing regulations must be released back in the water immediately, even if they are damaged.
- Killing or possessing a fish that is undersized or entangled elsewhere than the mouth, as well as other violations of the fishing regulations, will result in immediate cancellation of the fishing licence and a temporary ban on fishing.
- In autumn, it is recommended that fishermen release fish in spawning dress back into the river.
- Purchasers of licences must notify their catches in the catch book by the noticeboard of the administrative committee.
- Limitations and recommendations
- Fishing with a fly, the maximum allowed hook size is no. 6 with two- and three-forked hooks, no. 2 with one-forked hooks.
- With spoon-bait, the maximum allowed hook size is no. 2.
- The maximum allowed casting weight is 70 g. The weight line must have a minimum strength of 0.50 mm or 50 lbs.
- To prevent the weight from coming loose when cast, a line of the same strength as the main line or fly line is recommended.
- When fishing with a casting weight, monofilament line is not recommended for the main line.
- Use of lead casting weights is not recommended.
- Take account of the other fishermen when you fish. Let those below you cast first. Try to avoid casting upstream if there are other fishermen there. This way you will avoid entangling your lines needlessly.
- Casting is not allowed towards factory buildings or people. The users of casting weights are always responsible for their casting and the damage possibly caused.
- Bleeding and cleaning of the catch is only allowed in the places set out for the purpose. The directions given on the handling of cleaning waste must be followed.
- The use of all natural and artificial baits in the lure hook is forbidden. During the whitefish catching period, which will be notified separately, there is a special set of rules in force. These rules are in force until further notice.

Fishing rules for the whitefish catching period
- Fishing will take place only in the area marked at the pier (rod racks). The fishing is so-called bottom angling, where the weight used is intended to stay in place at the bottom.
- There is no limit on the number of hooks and lines used. The maximum hook size, however, is no. 6.
- There are no limits on nature of the bait; use of live baits is allowed. Any salmon or trout caught must be freed from the hook immediately and released back in the water, even if damaged.
- The licence covers a 10-hour period beginning at 7:00 AM and ending at 5:00 PM. The price of the licence is €10.
- The maximum allowed number of fishers (rod quota) in the area is 30+5 fishermen at the same time, the 5 being the quota for owners of the waters. Each fisherman may use only one rod at a time.
- The whitefish catchers must record their catches in the whitefish catch book of the area. Failure to record the catches may result in cancellation of the licence. The whitefish catching must not disturb the salmon fishing in the area. The licence entitles one fisherman to take a maximum of 10 whitefish and rainbow trout all together, of which no more than 3 can be rainbow trout.
- These rules are in force until further notice.
